Southern Union State CC
Southern Union State Community College is located in Opelika and has in excess of 9,000 students spread over three campuses in east Alabama, including over 4,000 students at the Opelika campus. The Opelika Campus is located only 6 miles from Auburn University on Lafayette Parkway at the intersection of U.S. Highways 431 and 29.
The Opelika Campus is on the move with several new, ultra-modern facilities. A full range of two-year programs in the technical and health-science divisions are available, as well as academic and health sciences offerings to fulfill virtually every transfer requirement.
The College's technical division programs prepare students for immediate employment, retrain existing workers, and promote local economic stability and competitiveness. Technical programs provide students technical skills as well as academic competencies necessary for successful employment in technological careers. The Technical program has three areas of emphasis:
1. More than twenty instructional training programs prepare students for immediate employment in well-paying occupations such as drafting and design, industrial maintenance technology, welding, and machine shop technology.
2. Business and industry training programs provide specific training to meet the needs of area employers.
3. Programs such as Tech-Prep and Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit give high school students opportunities to take college courses.
Industry Training Center at Southern Union
Southern Union has a world-class facility designed to meet the training needs of area businesses/industries. The Training Center provides programs in electrical engineering, mechanics, hydraulics and pneumatics, as well as a laboratory of high-tech Programmable Logic Controllers and Intelligent Motion Control Equipment.
